Portable Terminal

A 512K memory portable terminal with integral bar code scanner that lets you track
your assets at the point of activity.
To power the terminal on, press and hold down the power key (second key up from the bottom, left hand column)
for at least a second, or press the laser activation key (the large orange key at the top).
To turn on the display backlight, press the CMD key and then the left arrow key. To turn it off again repeat the
same process. To adjust the display contrast, press the CMD key and then the right arrow key. For details of other
commands please refer to the PT600 user's manual.
When assets are being scanned the user can press F3 to display the number of assets scanned so far. Press F2 to
enter a new room, then again to enter a new user ID. Press F1 to return to the main menu. When using the CUSTOM
data collection option use the following input methods:
Text fields - enter using the keypad, or scan.
Make/Model - scan a bar code from the printed Make/Model list (obtained from Database - Edit Make/Modes).
Quantity and price fields - enter numeric only information, a decimal point is allowed.
List option fields - scan a bar code from the printed List information (obtained from Tools - Asset field names
- Edit list values - Print).
Date fields - enter 8 numeric digits, for example 24th June 2001 would be entered 26062001, and 1st August 2001
would be entered 01072001.
Boolean fields - these are the simple check box fields. Key 1 then enter to check the box, or key 0 then enter
to uncheck the box.
When scanning assets, if you scan the same asset twice, when you download the collected data to the PC only the
information relating to the last time the asset was scanned will count. So if you make a mistake during data collection,
just scan the same asset again and re-enter the appropriate data.
Whichever data collection option you select, Custom or Track, the information is stored in the same file. Once
that data has been successfully transferred to the PC it will be automatically deleted from the portable terminal.
In the unlikely event your portable terminal program ceases to function, ie it locks up or crashes, please try
the following:
1. Simultaneously press the CMD and ESC(ALPHA) keys, making sure the CMD key is engaged first. Then put the portable
terminal in its cradle and on the PC software select Tools - Update scanner. If the terminal responds, the PC software
will reset it to the main menu without any loss of data. If the terminal fails to communicate, try option 2.
2. Power the unit off (press and hold down the power key for at least two seconds). Simultaneously press and hold
down the CMD and ESC (ALPHA) keys, then press the power key. A start menu will appear. Select option 2 - warm start.
This will completely re-boot the terminal. Place it back in its cradle and on the PC software select TOOLS - Update
scanner. If the terminal responds, the PC software will reset it to the main menu without any loss of data. If
the terminal fails to communicate, try option 3.
3. WARNING - THIS OPTION WILL DELETE ALL STORED DATA IN THE PORTABLE TERMINAL. Power the unit off (press and hold
down the power key for at least two seconds). Simultaneously press and hold down the CMD and ESC (ALPHA) keys,
then press the power key. A start menu will appear. Select option 3 - cold start. This will completely re-set the
terminal. Place it back in its cradle and on the PC software select TOOLS - Update scanner. The application program
will be re-loaded and you will be ready to start again.
